Altaf condemns Lahore blast, announces day of mourning
Karachi
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief
Altaf Hussain has announced that his party will observe a day of
mourning on Saturday (today) to condemn the killing of Mufti Sarfraz
Naeemi.
He asked for shops and trade centres
to remain closed to observe the mourning day. A decision to this
effect was taken at a meeting of the MQM Coordination Committee,
said a statement issued by the party on Friday.
Altaf strongly condemned Friday’s
suicide attack at the mosque which killed at least four people,
including Mufti Sarfraz Naeemi.
In a statement issued form London, he
demanded of the president and prime minister to immediately order an
inquiry into how the suicide bomber entered the mosque. He also
demanded strict action against the leaders of religious extremists.
He said such acts could never
committed by a Muslim and this was being done only to destabilise
the present democratic government. MQM, he said, had long ago warned
of Talibanisation and the authorities did not heed the warning.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to rest
the departed souls in eternal peace and give courage to the bereaved
families to bear the tragic loss.
