Attempts
to end PPP-MQM alliance will fail, says Altaf
* MQM chief says terrorism and fanatics pose serious threat to
country’s integrity and security
By Irfan Ali
KARACHI: MQM chief Altaf Hussain has warned ‘defeated elements’ on
Thursday that their conspiracy to break off PPP-MQM alliance was
doomed to failure.
“MQM is in a strong position to counter and defeat such plots. Don’t
resort to machinations and wait for your turn till the next
elections,” Altaf said in his telephonic speech to a public meeting
on the occasion of the 31st foundation day of the All Pakistan
Muttahida Student Organisation at Lal Qila ground near MQM’s
headquarter Nine-Zero.
He warned that the conspiracy against the PPP-MQM alliance would
derail the democratic process and destabilise the whole country, let
alone the MQM or the PPP.
The MQM held its public meeting despite threats to the gathering.
The police, Rangers and MQM volunteers adopted extraordinary
security measures for the occasion.
The MQM chief didn’t name any particular party or group among the
conspirators, but he said the parties that lack parliamentary
strength were now hatching conspiracies.
He defended the Pakistan Army’s operation saying that it was aimed
at saving the democratic and progressive Pakistan of Muhammad Ali
Jinnah from religious fanatics, terrorists and extremists.
“These fanatics and terrorists ferociously massacre innocent
Muslims,” Hussain said. He urged the supporters of religious
extremists and fanatics to consider the consequences of their
support in the past, and asked them to withdraw their support
forthwith in the larger interest of the nation.
He further said that hundreds of thousands of people had to leave
their homes and reside in camps under the open sky because of the
terrorists who let loose a reign of terror in their areas.
“The MQM has extended all out support to the internally displaced
persons of the operation-hit areas and we shall continue to help
them rehabilitate,” he vowed.
He warned that terrorism and fanatics posed a serious threat to
Pakistan’s integrity and security.
