Book on Sindhi culture, history launched

Karachi

The book launch of “Sindh: Past Glory, Present Nostalgia” was held at Foundation for Museum of Modern Art (FOMMA) on Thursday. The book features a collection of writings by Indian and Pakistani authors which deal with a range of topics including Sindhi art, culture and history.

The event was also the launching pad of a FOMMA book club whose membership forms were available at the event.

Hamida Khuhro, chief guest at the occasion and former education minister, lamented the scarcity of art books and appreciated the great efforts of FOMMA.

Honorary Secretary and Director General of FOMMA Jalaluddin Ahmed said that art books are beyond the purchasing power of the masses, and the club aims to widen the circle of book readers by publishing books at subsidised prices.

Also present on the occasion were noted columnist Ardeshir Cowasjee and distinguished journalist Ghazi Salahuddin. Speaking with The News, Ghazi Salahuddin appreciated the effort and said: “It is a significant addition to the history of Sindh. I am all for the promotion of book-reading and broadening the book-readership.”
