LAHORE-Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the govt has launched the counter-insurgency military drive in Malakand division and Swat after taking stock of the situation and measuring all pros and cons of this decision.
He was talking to media men after inaugural ceremony of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College at Shaikh Zayed Hospital on Saturday. Governor Punjab Salman Taseer, Federal Minister Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, Secretary Cabinet Zafar Mahmood, Senior Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab Zulfiqar Khosa and MNA Hamza Shahbaz were also present on the occasion.
Regarding IDPs, he said that not only the govt but also the entire nation and the world community have owned IDPs and reiterated that the govt was determined to do every thing for them.
To a question about IDPs spreading out to various areas of the country, he said they are Pakistanis, our brethren and honorable guests, and they may go anywhere in the country.
‘They will be provided all possible help and assistance’.
He said that an appeal has been made to the world community seeking help for the distressed people and the govt was also providing relief and succour to the victims from it own resources.
‘Restricting the affectees to the camps and their registration was aimed at ensuring relief and assistance to them’, the PM maintained.
Gilani said that the use of drone attacks was counter-productive and this fact has been endorsed by the entire world that these attacks help extremists in getting united.
Had these attacks been helpful in eliminating the terrorists, we would also have supported it, he added.
He said that the militants would be wiped out as a result of the military drive and action would continue against all those, who challenge the writ of the govt. When asked as to who was funding the militants, he said that poppy growing mafia was at their back. ‘Wait for the solid proofs in this regard. We will share it with the nation’.
