Novel
on Karachi launched
“Karachiwale”, a novel by Mohiuddin Aminuddin, has not only
discussed the genuine issues and problems being faced by the lower
and middle class people, it also brought to light the hard realities
such as violence and political scuffles, discrimination and biases
of politicians and opinion makers.
These views were expressed at the launching ceremony of the novel
held at Arts Council, where prominent writers and critics highly
appreciated the author of Karachiwale.
Prominent Urdu short story writer Asad Muhammad Khan, who presided
over the function, declared the novel a true and creative account of
those living in Karachi. Asad noted that being a genuine writer
Aminuddin has the command to present very crude facts in a creative
manner.
Chief guest Sehar Ansari, however, took another view, saying that
the novel did not cover all the aspects of the problems confronting
the people and it looked as if there was a lack of courage in
presenting the facts in order to avoid resentment of political
leaderships.
Guest of honour Khawaja Razi Haider held that the novel was very
perfect and could be considered amongst the very few novels written
on Karachi.
Other speakers, including Rauf Niazi, A. Khayyam and Saira Ghulam
Nabi Khan, in their detailed papers shed light on different aspects
of the novel.
In her paper Saira Ghulam Nabi observed that Aminuddin was very
articulate in presenting the present day realities in his novel. She
said that previously most of the novels painted “nostalgia” or
encompassed a limited area of the city, but the recent novel covered
almost all parts of the big city as well as the economic issues of
the people.
Describing the novel as a representative one, she said that a lot of
aspects remained unattended since Karachi is a mega city with a
large population.
Rauf Niazi and A. Khayam examined various passages of the novel and
compared them with other foreign writings and drew the attention of
the critics towards important parts of the novel that demonstrated
the true creative skills of the author.
While appreciating the author, A Khayyam said that he gave such a
novel which could mark the beginning of a big novel. Rauf Niazi
concluded that Aminuddin is a writer of great skills and he has
already authored seven books and this novel was the essence of his
creative experiences.
The novel was written with an enlightened approach that showed the
unbiased and biased people, trapped people as well as political
conspiracies and in a way it was a cry of the people of Karachi who
have had to suffer great hardships owing to the negative policies of
those who matter. Proceeding of the book was conducted by short
story writer Aneeqa Naaz.
