KARACHI: The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has ignored
certain areas of the city, especially Lyari and Keamari Towns,
alleged PPP MNA Abdul Qadir Patel while addressing a press
conference at the Karachi Press Club on Thursday.
He said that the federal government has yet to release funds worth
Rs 300 million for the uplift of these areas while the CDGK has
deliberately ignored them and not supplying their residents with
potable water and other civic facilities.
Patel claimed that it was not the CDGK but the PPP government, which
had approved several development schemes for these areas and has
completed several projects including the network of water pipeline
from Kamilla to Machi Miyani Masjid along with the installation of
stand-by power generators at the water pumping station in Union
Council No 1 at the cost of Rs 500,000.
Patel said that it was he who had managed the release of funds from
the federal government for carrying out development works. He added
that there is nothing that the CDGK could claim on the development
sphere of these areas and rather it’s the PPP MNAs who have brought
the necessary funds to for their uplift.
There are more instances regarding development works done by the
elected representatives from the PPP, he said. These include the
water supply scheme in UC No 2 in Gulshan-e-Sikandar at a cost of Rs
42 million, the water supply scheme in Ittehad Town with a cost of
Rs 20 million, the construction of road from Eidgah to Khyber Chowk
worth Rs 35 million, allotment of 300 quarters to deserving people
in Keamari Town’s Bab-ul-Islam Housing Society with each house
costing Rs 2 million and the construction of road from Haroon
Building to Nagina Cinema at a cost of Rs 6 million.
Furthermore, the MNA also gave credit to PPP representatives for the
construction of road from Shams Island to Sandspit worth Rs 35
million, power supply to Salehabad Island at a cost of Rs 20
million, water supply to Machhar Colony worth Rs 37 million, power
supply to a village in UC 4 in Mauripur costing Rs 20 million, water
supply to a village in UC 4 in Mauripur worth Rs 30 million,
establishment of a school in Tikri village at a cost of Rs 5
million, laying of sewerage lines in Gulshan-e-Benazir in Gabopat UC
8 worth Rs 20 million, power supply to Raees Ghulam Sarwar Village
