PPP
urges parliament to take note of ‘unjustified strike
Karachi
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)
urged the parliament on Monday to take note of “unjustified calls
for strike” and to pass a resolution against the issue because these
strikes cause significant financial loss to the national exchequer,
as well as immense hardships for citizens.
In a statement, the Bilawal House
spokesman said that unjustified strikes in Karachi were a “national
tragedy”, which caused a loss of billions of rupees. “They even bar
students from appearing in annual examinations,” he said.
The spokesman, while appreciating the
Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) decision of dissociating itself
from the strike call issued by a nationalist party, urged MQM chief
Altaf Hussain to take note of those elements who misused the name of
the party for strike calls on Saturday and Monday respectively.
The spokesman hoped that the MQM
would play its role to foil anti-Pakistan conspiracies hatched in
the name of religion and ethnicity and would the support
government’s efforts to curb extremism and “Talibanization” in the
country. The spokesman also urged the government to take note of the
performance of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), which
resorted to load-shedding despite strikes.
