KARACHI: Sindh Tarraqi Pasand Party (STPP) chief Dr Qadir Magsi has
vowed to continue with his party’s protest as per schedule against
the arrival of IDPs into Sindh regardless of the consequences,
adding that Sindh cannot afford the burden of any more ‘outsiders’.
The party is scheduled to bring out a protest rally towards the CM’s
House in Karachi on Wednesday (today) and will organise a sit-in at
the Sindh-Punjab border on June 17. These protests are a part of the
movement against the arrival of IDPs coming from Swat, Malakand and
other parts of the NWFP and FATA in Sindh, especially Karachi.
“We will not remain silent on the issue and will go to the CM’s
House. It would be decided there whether the government will stop
the people of Sindh by firing bullets or not,” he said while
speaking at the ‘Meet the Press’ programme held at the Karachi Press
Club on Tuesday.
He dispelled the impression that the nationalist parties became
active whenever the PPP government is in power, adding that his
party would not stop the struggle for rights of the Sindhi people
whether the PPP government exists or not. “Let it (PPP government)
collapse, as there is no need of such a government that cannot
protect the interests of Sindhi people,” he said.
Magsi said that people had given mandate to the PPP government with
the hope that it would take to task the culprits involved in the
assassination of Benazir Bhutto and Akbar Bugti as well as those
killed on May 12 and April 9 incidents. “The PPP government has
failed to do and compromised on the murder of Bhutto,” he said.
During his speech, the STPP leader criticised the politics of the
MQM, and ruled out any alliance with the party even on the issue of
IDPs in Sindh. He alleged that the MQM was not sincere in the
opposition of IDPs like other issues relating to the Sindh province.
Reiterating his party’s stance about the IDPs he said that the
government should arrange for their stay in NWFP, adding that the
people of Sindh would provide them with all the assistance.
