Rebellion
in the offing?: ‘PkSF not
to abide by ANP directives’
KARACHI:
The Pakhtoon students-backed, Pakhtoon Student Federation (PkSF)
leadership announced that they would not abide by the instruction
and decisions taken by the provincial leadership of its parent
political party- the Awami National Party (ANP).
The student leaders claimed that there was no turmoil in its rank
after the provincial president of the ANP, taking a disciplinary
action, dissolved the PkSF cabinet.
It may be remembered that differences arouse among the provincial
leadership of the ANP and PkSF, during the recent ethnic violence in
the city, after the PkSF rejected instructions from the ANP
leadership and lodged FIRs against the regional leaders of MQM in a
murder case.
“When our brother Sohail Khattak was killed, we lodged an FIR
against the culprits involved in the matter; the party leaders were
apposed to our actions, saying that in retaliation, the MQM would
lodge FIR against them,” Ismail Mehsood, introducing himself as the
president of PkSF, stated while addressing a press conference on
Thursday.
Earlier, ANP Sindh President Shahi Syed, in a press conference, said
that the ANP had nothing to do with the then leadership of PkSF. Two
days ago, a press release was issued from the Mardan House by the
ANP Students Affairs Chairman Bashir Sherpao, nominating a new
cabinet of the PkSF on the advice of Syed.
Mehsood alleged that the actions of the provincial leadership of ANP
were undemocratic. “They announced a new cabinet without consulting
the student leaders and the result is in front of you,” he said,
adding that the people in the cabinet that was announced by the ANP
had rejected the offer of the party and stood loyal to the
organisations leadership and supported Mehsood.
“According to the party’s constitution, the president and general
secretaries of the PkSF are members of the Pakhtoon Action Committee
and Working Committee, however, ANP has denied these right to us, so
how can we abide by them?” he asked.
“Raza Khan Jadoon and Adam Khan Wazir are our vice presidents and
Doctor Imran Afridi is the general secretary,” he went on to say.
PkSF has announced a five-member committee that will hold dialogues
with the central leadership.
On the other hand, ANP Sindh General Secretary Ameen Khattak, while
talking to Daily Times, regarded the claims of the PkSF leadership
as meaningless. “They have nothing to do with the party of PkSF,” he
said, adding that those are the members of PkSF who had been
announced by the party leader, Bashir Sherpao.
