Shahi calls for arms-free city KARACHI: Awami National Party Sindh President Shahi Syed on Tuesday demanded the government to make Karachi free of arms. Speaking at a press conference after a meeting of the Pakhtoon Action Committee (PAC), Syed said that the Pakhtoons in the city are prepared to submit their weapons to maintain peace in the city. He also said that the ANP would not call off the strike call for May 12 until the government declares the date as a day of mourning and observes a public holiday on it. Syed also requested the Urdu-speaking citizens of Karachi, who have a Pakhtoon lineage ‘to join hands with their Pakhtoon brethren and prevent further massacre in the city.’ “They are not Mohajirs by any means, their ancestors belonged to Pakhtoon tribes such as Yousufzai and Omarzai. Come forward and rescue your Pashto-speaking fellows,” said Syed. Syed termed the Haq Parast Loya Jirga as a ‘test-tube baby and a part of the conspiracy to create turmoil in the city’. “When we take steps towards peace, MQM starts issuing negative statements and adopt negative tactics,” alleged Syed.
