Target killings rampant in city:
Two more Haqiqi men murdered
KARACHI: Two more activists of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H)
were gunned down on Wednesday morning, bringing the total to four in
two days and bringing to the fore the fact that target killings are
rampant in the city.
In the first incident, 29-year-old
Naveed, son of Mohammad Sabir, who was abducted earlier, was brought
to the Landhi Chiragh Hotel by three armed men in a white Suzuki
hi-roof and shot dead on the main road, within the limits of the
Awami Colony police station. The deceased was a resident of Area
4-A, Landhi No 5 and has left behind three children and a widow.
Following the incident, unidentified armed men resorted to aerial
firing in the area, resulting in closure of shops and markets. A
heavy contingent of law enforcers rushed to the scene but they too
were unable to control the situation, as the armed men openly
restored to aerial firing, vowing to avenge the death of their
comrade. A FIR, no 179/09, has been registered on behalf of the
deceased’s brother, Javed, who denied his late brother’s affiliation
with the MQM-H.
However, Shamshad Ghouri of the MQM-H (Afaq group) said that the
deceased was their worker, associated with Unit 83, Landhi and was
currently given the responsibility of carrying out wall chalking in
the city.
In another incident, unidentified culprit’s killed Yasin, 28, son of
Syed Ali, in Shah Faisal Colony No 3, within the limits of Shah
Faisal Colony police station. According to DSP Shafi Rind, two men
riding a motorcycle shot the deceased near his residence. He added
that both the deceased and his brother are associated with the MQM-H.
No case was registered till the time this report was filed.
Ghouri said that every June, which is the month the MQM-H came into
existence, its rival group starts these target killings. He
expressed concerns that the violence will continue, warning that if
the provincial government and law enforcement agencies do not take
actions, they must prepare themselves to face the wrath of the
Mohajir people.
