Top Sindh cop likely to be shown door
KARACHI - The PPP led government is likely to remove any one of the
top-stalwart of Sindh police to fulfil the demands of its ally MQM
and resolve the ongoing tense situation emerged between both the
leading parties of Sindh, The Nation learnt on Sunday.
The sources told that the issues, MQM has pertaining the matter,
would be discussed in today’s meeting between MQM Chief Altaf
Hussain and President Asif Zardari in London. MQM is hopeful that
the president will consider MQM’ s concerns as it has been the case
in past.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement has demanded of the government to remove
the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh and Capital City Police
Officer who patronize drug mafia, land grab mafia and underworld.
MQM, an ally of the ruling PPP in Sindh and Federal government,
warned to take a stern action, but does not have decided to give
deadline in this regard in case of non-cooperation on the part of
the government.
The informed sources told The Nation that Federal Minister Rehman
Malik was trying to convince MQM to withdraw from the demands of the
removal of IG Sindh and CCPO Karachi, yet PPP will likely to remove
one of the officers from the slot to pacify the angry MQM.
Sources also told that Federal Minister Rehman Malik summoned the
CCPO Waseem Ahmed at London forthwith to decide the new course of
action.
MQM Deputy Parliamentary leader, Haider Abbas Rizvi, told The Nation
that there was no dead-lock between both the parties, in fact, the
MQM leadership has raised its objection which is hopefully be
considered by the PPP’s government.
He said that MQM had not proposed name of any officials for the post
of the IG Sindh and CCPO Karachi. We have requested the Government
to replace these officers, who are involved in patronizing drug
mafia, land grab mafia and underworld, he added.
More than 33 workers of MQM have been detained by the law
enforcement agencies in the wake of the recent violence at
metropolis. It is very strange that majority of them have been
arrested from their houses rather than points of violence.
Advisor to CM, Waqar Mehdi, when contacted, denied having such kind
of suggestion, yet he asked both the parties to work for the
betterment and progress of the country.
