4 more Haqiqi activists killed in Karachi
KARACHI - Violence continued unabated in Karachi on Tuesday as four
more MQM-H workers were gunned down in the last 24 hours as the
death toll reached 41 in last eight days.
The first incident took place in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area where at least
four armed men on two motorbikes targeted two Haqiqi workers and
managed to flee.
The deceased were identified as Tariq, a former sector incharge of
Gulistan-e-Johar and Waheed, 35, was the sector member of the said
area.
The incident took place outside Tariq’s house at Block 10-A,
Gulshan-e-Iqbal near Aladdin Park within the limits of Aziz Bhatti
police station.
DSP Ghulam Hussain Korai said that armed men targeted them when
Tariq was sitting in his car with his friend Waheed.
The culprits used Kalashnikovs and TT pistols in the killings and
fled away. Both the persons received multiple bullet injuries and
died on the spot. Their bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate
Medical Centre (JPMC).
The deceased were also wanted by police in some cases including the
killing of four MQM workers who were slain in Raza Square in Rashid
Minhas Road in 2004 and attacked on the Rangers personnel in the
last elections in Sharah-e-Faisal police limits.
The officials further said that the complaint of Tariq’s brother has
been registered against four unknown men and further investigations
is in progress. About 41 political activists had been targeted in
Karachi in last eight days, creating a wave of fear and panic in
people.
Similarly, one 30-year-old Ali Abbas was gunned down near Al-Azam
Square within the limits of Sharifabad police station.
Police officials said the victim used to work in a local factory and
also ex-activist of MQM-H. The incident took place when the victim
was sitting with his friends, when unidentified snipers gunned him
down. The case was registered against unknown culprits.
It should be noted here that majority of target killings in the City
are from Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir and North Karachi.
Police seem clueless about the killers, as none of the cases related
to such political targeted killing had been probed though the Sindh
Home Minister on Tuesday told the media that some 40 persons
involved in the targeted killings had been arrested and the
investigators are questioning them.Arrests will be made soon, he
said.
