SLAMABAD: The Art and Craft Village (ACV) will promote Pakistani culture and handicrafts, as it would provide an opportunity to the foreigners and domestic visitors to visit the village and see regional cultures and traditional crafts at one place, said Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Tariq Mahmood Khan on Wednesday.

He made these remarks after a presentation, given by Indus Heritage Trust (IHT) at CDA headquarters, on the village being constructed opposite to the Rose and Jasmine Garden, Shakarparian.

“Besides providing an opportunity to the artists and artisans from all over Pakistan to introduce and market their traditional products, the ACV would help mix regional cultures to promote inter-provincial harmony, said Khan. It would also help promote Pakistan’s soft image abroad and project the folk and modern architecture of Pakistan,” he added.

The IHT informed Khan that 80 percent work of the project had been completed and the village would be ready for opening within the stipulated time, which is June end. The IHT representative briefed the chairman about different facilities to be extended to the artists and artisan for exhibiting their products. The ACV comprises an exhibition hall, clusters of shops for different regional products, studios for the artists, where people would see the live work of the artists, tea shops, hostel for the visiting craftsmen, showrooms and folk theaters, he added.

The chairman directed the authorities concerned to complete the project within the stipulated time. He also directed the CDA Environment Directorate to gear up work on landscaping and beautification of the area.

The Environment Directorate Chairman informed the chairman that they had already transplanted 404 grown-up trees of various species in the ACV.

Khan stressed the need for provision of all civic facilities at the village and maximum facilities to the visiting artists and artisans to make them feel at home during their stay at the ACV. CDA member engineering, director general environment, director general water management and director special project also attended the presentation
