Dubbing Pakistan militant state wrong: scholar

Scholar and Professor of History at Delhi University Dr Fatima
Hussain has rejected the misconception about Pakistan as a militant
nation being propagated against it in the world and said that it has
been wrongly branded as a militant nation.
Delivering a special lecture on the topic of “Some Trends in the
History of Punjab “ organized by the Punjab Institute of Language,
Art & Culture(PILAC), at Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday evening. Dr
Fatima Pointed out that there was a positive change in the trends of
recent history in the sub-continent, specially in India where
objectivity was taking the front seat since a lot of work on new and
positive directions was being done in the field of history there.
She said that Punjab was a land of peace and added that Sufis have
done a lot of work on spreading awareness about peaceful coexistence
and mutual tolerance.
She said that Punjab has a rich history and pointed out the need for
more objective and comprehensive history in Pakistan. She said that
history was neutral and there3 were no heroes or villains in it. She
said that before the British Raj there was no cast identification in
the sub-continent.
She emphasised the need to look at the history of Punjab in the
geographical perspective. She said that those who have been known in
the history of the sub-continent as the invaders had in fact settled
in this land later; therefore, they were not the invaders anymore.
She emphasised the need to make good use of the Persian literature
since it has been an important language in sub-continent and was
also a rich source of history as well. She suggested setup of
Cultural History Centres in Punjab.
Later, Dr Tahir Kamran, Chairman Department of History, GC
University, who was also the chief guest on this occasion, expressed
the need to make the official archives accessible for the historians
in particular and the public in general to have more clarity about
the history of our land which was still shrouded in confusion and
mystery. Dr Tahir Kamran emphasised to enhance and elevate the role
of the historians in the country since the records and the history
of the country, especially the pre-partition historic documents were
in the control of the bureaucrats while the students and the
teachers of history do not have an access to them. The News:
