PNCA sheds light on plight of Mohajirs

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Monday staged a famous play ‘Mirza Ghalib Bandar Road Par’ at PNCA auditorium.

Written by Khwaja Moinuddin in 1956, ‘Mirza Ghalib Bandar Road Par’ is the second play of 40-day long ‘National Drama Festival’ that is jointly organised by Ministry of Culture and Dolphin’s Communications.

Produced and directed by a veteran renowned actor Muhammad Qavi Khan, ‘Mirza Ghalib Bandar Road Par’ is based on the plight of the Mohajirs of Pakistan.

Stretched on two hours, the play brings forth the philosophy of Mirza Ghalib that takes on a more profound tone while investigating life’s mysteries on ‘Bandar Road’. The play reflects a movement of thought, the product of a civilisation standing on the brink of change, as Ghalib remained fully yet remorsefully conscious of it.

The play also exposed intense grief and yearning of Ghalib’s poetic thoughts.

Qavi Khan played the leading role of Mirza Asadullah Ghalib fantastically well and tried to convey the lesson of love for Urdu language that was losing its hold in society. Besides Khan, Anwar Ali also did full justice with his character as a Seth (an owner of a hotel). People also appreciated the comedy roles of Suleman Bandar Wala, Hawaldar and a beggar.

PNCA will stage the same play on Tuesday (Today) and Wednesday along with ‘Shahr-e-Afsos’ - a play produced by Ajoka Theatre.

PNAC promoting quality products, says DG

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) is striving for improvement, competency and integrity of conformity assessment bodies by providing them with an internationally recognised accreditation service, said PNAC Director General (DG) Eng Shaukat Hussain on Monday. Speaking in a PTV talk show, he said the council was also promoting a culture of quality products, which ultimately benefited consumers, producers, regulators and other stakeholders. He said second International Accreditation Day would be observed today (Monday) under a theme “Competence”. He said the PNAC had developed a national accreditation policy benefiting cooperative operation of all bodies concerned and aiming at the mutual recognition with other countries to establish the process of Thai accreditation in line with international standards. Hussain said the customers would have confidence in the quality of products and services after availing themselves of accreditation. He said this facility would enhance export and build trust between council and customers. In a global industry, customers are becoming more demanding and seeking assurances of products and services, he said, adding, accredited organisations reduced the risk of providing unreliable test results, services and products besides meeting the customers’ expectations, however. app
