‘No Kashmir settlement, no peace in S Asia’

ISLAMABAD: Neither durable peace and stability in South Asia nor good relations between Pakistan and India are possible until Kashmir conflict is peacefully resolved, said former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif on Friday. Talking to a Kashmir American Council delegation here, the ex-prime minister said Pakistan would continue diplomatic, political and moral support to Kashmiri people fighting for freedom. He said growing violation of human rights in the Indian held Kashmir (IHK) was a cause of concern for Pakistan. Nawaz condemned recent abduction, rape and murder of two Kashmiri women in IHK’s Shopian town. The delegation led by Kashmir American Council Executive Director Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai apprised the former prime minister of Kashmir’s latest situation. It appreciated the PML-N and Nawaz Sharif’s support to the Kashmir cause. The delegation later met Chairman of Parliament’s Committee on Kashmir Fazlur Rehman. It appreciated the committee’s decision to send parliamentary delegation to important capitals of the world to highlight Kashmir issue. Dr Fai said Kashmiris’ right to self-determination guaranteed in the successive resolutions of the United Nations Security Council could not be compromised for conflict resolution. staff report
