    Punjab open to IDPs, says Nawaz

Former premier says extremism growing due to drone attacks 

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif said on Monday the internally displaced people (IDPs) from Swat would be welcomed in the Punjab.

“Prohibiting affectees to enter another province is a violation of basic fundamental rights and national interests,” he added.

Nawaz, while inaugurating a website containing information for the relief and rehabilitation of the IDPs, Nawaz urged the nation to fully participate in the relief activities. He said the website would provide complete information about the IDPs and help ensure the transparent movement of aid items and money. 

Nawaz said 4,000 ceiling fans would be dispatched for the IDP camps today (Monday) while flour would be sent on Wednesday.

US drones: Also on Monday, Nawaz said US drone attacks in the tribal regions of Pakistan had resulted in the growth of extremism in the country, a private TV channel reported. 

According to the channel, Nawaz said this while talking to visiting US Senators in Lahore. Nawaz said “drone strikes are a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and [a danger to] regional security”. 

Separately, in an interview with a private TV channel, Nawaz said he does not want to come into power with the help of the army and the US. daily times monitor/agencies.
