Bangladeshi journalists visit Punjab University

LAHORE: A ten-members Bangladeshi journalists delegation called on Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran in his office and later visited Institute of Communication Studies. Punjab University Deans and Principal Officers were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that PU students were very talented and creative and they have won over 70 national and international contests in the first five months of the current year. He extended all-out cooperation to the Bangladeshi universities and media-men to launch project of mutual benefits and cooperation. PU Registrar Prof Dr Naeem Khan briefed the delegation about the Punjab University. He said that PU is the largest and oldest university of the country comprises over 70 teaching departments in which 90 master level and 31 graduation level academic programs are offered. He said that approximately 40% of 30 thousand on-campus students could get scholarship of different categories in PU. Dr Naeem Khan and VC Dr Mujahid Kamran also briefed the delegation about different research projects of the varsity. Later the delegation visited ICS, where Dean Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences Prof Dr Mughees-ud-Din and Director ICS Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz received the delegation and a special ceremony held where ICS faculty and students got a chance to interact with the Bangladeshi journalist. The Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran presided over the ceremony. Dr Mughees and Dr Naz briefed the delegation about the ICS faculty and academic programs, the issue of the freedom of press/media remained the Centre of the discussion. Teachers, Students and journalists gave their views on this issue. The delegation was told that Pakistani print and electronic media is enjoying freedom even got the right to openly criticize the government functionaries and policies. Bangaldeshi team briefed the ICS students and teachers about the status of Freedom of media in the country. Dr Mughees presented a proposal to conduct a study on the image of Pakistan in Bangladesh media and the image of Bangladesh in Pakistani media. A dinner was also arranged in the honor of the delegation.
