Dual nationality case: Court displeased over
PPP lawmakers’ repeated absence

KARACHI: A local court on Saturday expressed displeasure over the absence of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)’s leaders Nadia Gabol and Farahnaz Ispahani, despite being summoned multiple times in connection with the dual nationality case.

The Session Judge South ordered the prosecution side to produce witnesses on next hearing to record their testimonies against the PPP’s leaders in the case.

Gabol’s lawyer told the court that his client couldn’t appear due to the death of one of her relatives.

However, Ispahani’s advocate said his client couldn’t turn up because she is seeking medical treatment abroad, requesting the court to grant her exemption from appearance before the court.

Earlier, the court had issued arrest warrants for former member of the National Assembly (MNA) Farahnaz Isphani and ex-member Sindh Provincial Assembly (MPA) Nadia Gabol due to their repeated absence.

The case was instituted against Gabol and Ispahani, former MPA and MNA respectively, for not disclosing their dual citizenship.

The memberships of Nadia Gabol and Farahnaz Ispahani were suspended by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in July 2012. The ECP had disqualified 11 lawmakers in relation to the dual nationality case under the apex court.
