to update entire education curriculum'

ISLAMABAD - The
government plans to increase the budgetary allocation for education
as part of the forthcoming national education policy so that serious
headway can be made towards achieving Universal Primary
Education in Pakistan.
Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani, Federal Minister for Education stated this
Friday on the occasion of Family Literacy Programme’s certificate
awarding ceremony organised by Children’s Global Network Pakistan (CGN-P)
in collaboration with the
Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
The ceremony marked the successful completion of 2008-09 session of
CGN-P’s Family Literacy Programme through
which more than 2500 parents mostly mothers from 189 literacy
centers in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Karachi
have acquired basic literacy and maths skills.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the entire education
curriculum would be updated within a couple of months to bring it at
par with international education standards. To ensure efficient
teaching of new curriculum,the government would also initiate
teachers’ training programmes, which is essential to acquaint them
with modern teaching
techniques and computer technology.
“A new education policy is being formulated to incorporate Islamic
teachings, national ideology, human rights, environment,
disaster and risk management, HIV/AIDS and interfaith harmony.
The ministry has also decided to revamp the examination and
evaluation system and National Education Assessment
System is working to assess students’ learning,” he added.Commending
the efforts of network he said Children’s Global Network is a key
stakeholder in the fight to reform.
