Islam’s birth anniversary celebrate

With a potpourri of recitation of
poetry and songs, Bangladesh High Commission on Monday celebrated
‘Nazrul Jonmo Joyonti’, the 110th Birth Anniversary of ‘Rebel Poet’
Kazi Nazrul Islam, the National Poet of Bangladesh.
A large number of expatriate
Bengali’s joined the staff and family members of the High Commission
to celebrate the occasion. Messages of the president and prime
minister of Bangladesh were read out by Ishtiaque Hossain, the Press
Counsellor and the Deputy High Commissioner Sufiur Rehman addressed
the gathering and paid respect to the poet. He stressed the need for
spreading the inspiring ideals of Nazrul and inculcating the habit
of learning more about the rich literary traditions left by Nazrul.
Each presentation was selected to
portray the true versatility of Nazrul as a dreamer, a rebel, a
lover, a poet of the masses and highlight his adherence to humanity.
Mustafizur Rehman illustrated life and works of Nazrul and
highlighted his concept of equality and his fierce denunciation of
gender biases and discrimination of caste and creed.
Small kids recited poems and songs of
Nazrul written for children. Little Afia talked about Nazrul and his
life. Radia, Arnob, Rimu, and little Samia also recited poems of
Nazrul. Momo Rehman recited Nazrul’s epoch making poem ‘Manush’(Man
— I sing of man’s equality, nothing is greater or bigger than man).
Oishorjo and Kazi Asif sang Nazrul Geeti to the delight of the
