Cultural Wing awards artist

People’s Cultural Wing, Rawalpindi
Division, in a ceremony here Monday conferred awards on artists,
writers and prominent personalities for their contribution in the
fields of drama, production, music and others.
A number of artists and eminent
figures were given Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Excellence Awards
in the function held at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA).
Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Allah Rakha, Abdullah, Nargis Rasheed
and Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan were among the recipients of the awards
for making contribution in their fields.
Speaking on the occasion, Federal
Minister for Population Welfare Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that art
plays an important role in portraying social issues and creating
awareness among the masses. “Art represents society and its values,
and we must promote its different genres and give due status to
artists,” she added.
She said artists serve the society by
sharing their happiness and sorrows, and provide them relief and
catharsis in times of need. “Artists are also the protectors of a
society’s moral values, who through their work emphasise the
importance of truth, integrity and honesty,” she noted.
The minister said that Benazir Bhutto
was a visionary leader, who always encouraged cultural activities
that are the real source of enlightenment for people. She assured of
her ministry’s support for cultural activities and said she realises
the importance of media in raising awareness about population
issues, adding that the ministry has undertaken numerous media
campaigns in which various singers lent their voice for the cause of
family planning and reproductive health.

Sadaf Murtaza said PPP is a progressive party and always worked for
the welfare of artists. She said artists give social consciousness
and teach people about their economic and political rights.
Renowned artists presented colourful
performances and songs to amuse the audience, which added colour to
the award ceremony. Leader of House in Senate Nayyar Bukhari was
also present on the occasion.
