Support your soldiers

The media has been carrying statistics regarding the number of
soldiers, police and civilians injured or killed while fighting
against the Taliban pagans. While that is good to know, the
soldiers, police officers and civilians putting their lives in
danger to defend the population from the murderous Taliban fascists
are more than just a statistic. They are the heroes in our midst. We
must applaud the courage demonstrated by these extraordinary men and
women. The media must celebrate these heroes as they engage the
enemy in Swat and Buner.
The print media should dedicate a column to such stories on a weekly
basis. Electronic media outlets would do well to develop weekly
documentaries and news reports focusing on these brave men and
women. The focus of the stories can range from a soldier fearlessly
breaking through Taliban lines to a commando unit ruthlessly
eliminating the insidious Taliban militia; from a police officer
keeping Taliban thugs at bay outside a police station to a fearless
patriot such as Afzal Khan Lala refusing to bow to the fascists
invading his home. These stories must be told and the heroes
recognised for their sacrifices. It is the least we can do to show
our appreciation.
