What ails Pakistan?
Prof M. Siddiq Kalim
For the last few years, Pakistan is shaken and rocked by sudden bomb
blasts, sporadic killings, and thus by a consistent sabotage. These
were taking place in the borderland between Pakistan and
Afghanistan, the tribal areas, now they are occurring in the
heartland of the country as the one in Manawan Police Training
Academy and other major cities of Pakistan.
These horrible attacks have been carried out by the American cum
NATO forays in our FATA and such other tribal areas. They are
responsible for instigating, quite a few clandestine organisation to
undertake, so to say, destructive exercises, but the US cum NATO
action proves to be counterproductive, since this creates hatred
against the Americans and their allies. Moreover, these are also
destroying government or semi-government buildings besides private
houses.
The Government of Pakistan over the past twenty-five years or so
have brought the country to this vulnerable condition by serving
American interests at the cost of Pakistani developmental needs. The
defeat of the Soviet Russia during General Ziaul Haq's regime
enabled America to persecute Muslims all over the world by killing
millions of people in Iraq, Afghanistan and FATA in Pakistan.
General Musharraf accepted American demands just on their first
telephonic contact. Being a brainy army officer, he exploited this
opportunity to please President Bush to the extent of winning his
friendship. Later American opinion revealed that he had not done
much to curb the militants although he had imposed destruction on
the tribal areas without any compunction sacrificing many of our own
army men as well. Moreover, America had also been granted three of
four bases to carry on their nefarious drone attacks anywhere in the
tribal areas but it extends the forays in much vaster areas at the
same time. Today it has also been revealed that most of these
attacks are carried out with Pakistan consent. Now President Obama
wants to send a much larger force into Afghanistan as well as
increase the area of drone attacks by including Balochistan in it.
Alongwith this some foreign agencies are also destabilising Pakistan
on the behest of America.
