ISLAMABAD: Spokesman of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Muhammad Siddiqul Farooq on Tuesday demanded a registration of a murder case against General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, his immediate arrest and the inclusion of his name in the exit control list (ECL).

Speaking at a press conference here, he called for a judicial inquiry into the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto without any uncalled for delay and stressed that there was no reason for any delay after the independence of judiciary.

Recalling the press conference addressed by PPP Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari in January 2008, he said Mr Zardari had said ‘the email of Ms Bhutto to Wolf Blitzers of CNN on October 26, 2007 be treated as her dying statement,’ according to which Pervez Musharraf was responsible for her killing. He said Ms Bhutto had stated ‘If anything happens to me, I will hold Pervez Musharraf responsible.’

He regretted that one and a half year had passed since the assassination of an important personality of the country, but her killer was free to roam about and deliver lectures.

He also called for the accountability of General Musharraf for abrogation of the constitution for the second time on November 3, 2007.

He said under Article six of the constitution, the crime entails death sentence or life imprisonment. He said since the existing parliament had not taken criminal steps of providing constitutional cover to the unconstitutional act of Musharraf, the parliament and the government should hold him accountable in accordance with the constitution.
