Amina Asghar selected for Nobel Laureates meeting in Germany
LAHORE - Faculty member of
University of Education, Township, Campus Ms Amina Asghar has been
selected for participation in 59th Nobel Laureates meeting scheduled
to be held from 26th June to 8th July 2009 at Landau, Germany.
The Nobel Laureate meeting is an annual function at Landau in
various subjects like Physics and Medicine.
The turn of Chemistry subject comes after 5 years. In this 59th
meeting, Nobel Prize holders in Chemistry will gather at Landau. In
the first step, Higher Education Commission invited applications
from Pakistani young scholars below 35 ages from all four provinces
including FATA and Kashmir followed by highly competitive interview
conducted at HEC head office Islamabad.
These interviews were conducted by selection board of subject
experts and other technical members, which nominated 10 young
scholars from all over the Pakistan.
Final selection was made by Scientific Review Panel of the Landau
Council after evaluation of applications.
The council selected six young scholars from Pakistan including
University of Education’s Chemistry lecturer Ms Amina Asghar. In
this event, young scholars of 60 countries are going to participate.
Govt asked to control target-killing
Islami Jamiat Talaba offered ‘ghaibana namaz-e-janaza” of Mohsin
Akhtar, Nazim IJT Karachi (chapter) killed the other day during
clashes between various groups.
The funeral prayer was led by Liaquat Baloch at Nasir Bagh. Speaking
on the occasion, he said there is no government writ in Karachi and
target killing is at rampant and continued unabated.
He urged the government to establish its writ and asked why it
failed to control killing in Karachi. He also appealed to Chief
Justice to take suo moto notice of indiscriminate killings in
Karachi.
