Love marriage issue

CHIEF Justice of the Lahore High
Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Friday took notice of the
registration of fake cases against the husband and in-laws of the
girl, who had contracted a love marriage, at the behest of a PML-N
MPA from Jhang.
The chief justice also summoned the
police officers concerned for Monday along with the complete record
of cases registered against the in-laws of 25-year-old Kulsoom
Rehman Baloch of Islamabad, who had taken refuge in Karachi. The CJ
also directed the police to produce the arrested in-laws of Kulsoom.
The whole story of police highhandedness at the behest of the PML-N
politician was published in The News on Friday.
According to the news item, Kulsoom
Baloch had contracted a marriage with a man out of her clan against
the will her family. Owing to her marriage, her family and her
cousin a PML-N MPA used political influence and got an FIR
registered against Kulsoomís husband Fazal Abbas under sections
365-B and 379 of the Pakistan Penal Code for abducting Kulsoom and
committing robbery. The case was registered with the Airport Police
Station, Rawalpindi.
After the case was registered, the
police raided the house in which Fazal and Kulsoom were living
separately but they escaped safely. The same day, the police also
raided the house of Kulsoomís in-laws where, in the absence of a
female constable, her mother and sisters-in-law were beaten up.
The police barged in the house and
asked about Fazal and Kulsoomís whereabouts. They dragged Fazalís
mother and sisters out of the house and took them into custody.
Fazalís two teenaged sisters were
sent to the Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, where they remained till their
release.
Later, on April 28, officers from the
Barana Police Station (Jhang) arrested Fazalís elder sister Riffat
Raniís husband, Shafiq Dogar, claiming that an FIR (202/2009) was
registered against him under section 406/380 of the PPC.

tortured Shafiq and broke his legs in custody.
Girl handed over to mother: A
district and Sessions Court on Friday handed over custody of a girl
to her mother after recovering her from her father.
Kashifa Ahsan, a resident of Cantt,
filed a petition in the court stating that her husband, Salamat Ali,
had been keeping her eight months old daughter, Aiman, for the last
few days after thrashing and kicking her out of his house.
Man freed: A district and Sessions
Court on Friday freed a citizen after his recovery from the Sattu
Katla police illegal custody.
On a habeas corpus petition filed by
the detaineeís brother, Ayaz Hussain Shah, a resident of Town Ship,
that the police had detained his younger brother Sajid Hussain for
the last few days, a bailiff, Nasir Habib, raided the police station
and recovered the detainee from its lockup. Later, the court set him
free.

Saeed of Lahore High Court ordered the Director General LDA,
Managing Director WASA, Managing Director PHA and Secretary Local
Government to file their replies within ten days on a petition
against construction of a grid station in Gulberg area.
On court’s repeated orders, these
officials did not file their replies on which the court had directed
them to personally appear.
On Friday, all the four officials
personally appeared before the court and sought time to file reply.
The judge accepted their request.
The petition was filed by one Lt Col
(Retd) Moeen-ud-Din who submitted that LESCO was constructing a
power grid on a park owned by PHA.
