Minister stopped
from attending office
LAHORE - Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, while taking notice
of the report regarding the incident that took place on Lahore
Airport involving Provincial Minister for Prisons Ch Abdul Ghafoor,
has set up a three members inquiry tribunal which will submit its
recommendations to the government after completing the inquiry into
the matter within one week.
Moreover, the Minister has been stopped from carrying out his
duties. He was found guilty of misbehaving with the staff of the
Customs at the Airport after Ch Ghafoor successfully tried to get
‘his friends’ cleared from the Airport sans scanning.
The government believes that the incident and the alleged conduct of
the senior public representative has caused a stir in the public,
shaken the confidence of the people in their representatives, and
has the potential to blemish and grace of a very senior public
office. Seeing the gravity of the matter, the CM has constituted the
Tribunal.
Former MNA from Toba Tek Singh Muhammad Hamza, will be head of the
tribunal, while another former MNA from Gujranwala Ghulam Dastgir
Khan and Member Punjab Public Service Commissioner Shaukat Javed
will be its members. Deputy Secretary Cabinet will act as Registrar
of the Tribunal.
According to a circular issued in this regard the conduct of a
senior public representative has caused a stir in the public, shaken
the confidence of people in their representatives and has the
potential to blemish the prestige and grace of a very senior public
office, therefore a detailed enquiry into the incident was
necessary.
The Tribunal has been established under the Section 3 of the Punjab
Tribunal of Inquiry Ordinance 1969 which will ascertain the facts
alleged and / or reported in the media, probe the exact cause of the
incident, determine and fix responsibility on persons who violated
their lawful bounds and caused the untoward incident to happen.
The Tribunal will also suggest ways and means and will make
recommendations to the government to avoid any such incidents in the
future.
