Punjab govt relying on ‘Lotas’ for survival: Pervaiz
Talking to newsmen in Mailsi, where he mourned the death of MNA Muhammad Nawaz with his family members, the ex-Punjab CM said the PML was committed to the demand of the South Punjab province. He said the movement for the South Punjab province would begin from Bahawalpur after Eid, adding that the resolution of the PML for the province in the PA was deliberately being pushed aside by the incumbent CM because he was fearing overwhelming support which the resolution would get from the Punjab Assembly members. Pervaiz said the CM was busy in furthering his selfish agenda and he had left the people at the mercy of criminals and dacoits. He said the Punjab government was not interested in alleviating the miseries of the farmers of the South Punjab because the PML-N was not a popular entity there.
The ex-CM lashed out at Rs 21 billion that were spent on the construction of the Jaati Umra Road in Lahore, saying it was unfair to spend billions of rupees on one road. He said Shahbaz was a despot who had no qualms about sacrificing his own people on the altar of his power, adding that MPA Sanaullah Mastikhel had been made a scapegoat by him.

‘Q’ pledges to make South Punjab a province
· Published: May 06, 2010 (The Nation)
MULTAN – PML-Q Punjab President Ch Pervaiz Elahi has said that the drive launched by his party for the establishment of South Punjab province will bring prosperity, healthcare and education facilities as well as better environment to the people of this region.
He observed this while addressing the participants of a rally organised by PML-Q in connection with the campaign launched to press the demand for creating a new province of South Punjab on Wednesday.
The rally started from SP Chowk and ended at Chowk Nag Shah. Hundreds of Q-League workers from entire South Punjab joined the rally under the leadership of Pervaiz Elahi and chanted slogans in favour of new province.
Pervaiz maintained that the Q-League leadership, leaving aside personal gains, took this initiative for the bright future of coming generations of this region.
He decried both the ruling parties – PPP and PML-N – saying either parties came into power, turn after turn, but they did nothing for the public. “Except the hatred, they gave nothing to the residents of South Punjab,” he maintained.
Recalling his regime performance, he said that Q-League government had launched record number of projects worth Rs117 billion in South Punjab. “While on the other hand, current rulers allocated merely Rs5 billion out of which Rs3 billion are taken back,” he added. He said he used to visit Multan every second month when he was Chief Minister while the current rulers of Punjab visited London every second month.
According to him, some people ask a question as to how the movement would succeed. “I want to tell them that we’ve started this movement with utmost honesty and dedication,” he stressed, adding that the demand for a separate province by South Punjab people was highly genuine and justified, and they would soon achieve their goal as a result of Q league’s movement. He called upon the residents of entire Seraiki region to join hands with PML-Q for the creation of South Punjab province.
He said Q-League had presented South Punjab Province resolution in the Senate while the same would be submitted to Punjab Assembly’s budget session in June. He said the demand for establishment of South Punjab province was, in fact, the voice which emerged from the heart of each resident of this region. He said his party had formally launched movement for South Punjab province. “It’s a rather tough journey. We’ll have to take this movement forward wisely,” he added.
He feared that the government might adopt negative tactics to foil the movement but the Q league would firmly support the drive. He said Muslim League created Pakistan and it would save the country. “We continue the journey the Muslim League started in 1947. We’ve launched this drive to end deprivations of residents of South Punjab as well as to strengthen the federation,” he added.
Earlier, holding party flags and portraits of Ch Pervaiz Elahi the caravans of Q league workers kept pouring in from Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Mailsi, Khanewal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur and other areas throughout the day. Besides Ch. Pervez Elahi, the rally was also addressed by other leaders of Q league including former federal minister Malik Sikandar Hayat Bosan, former district nazim Lodhran Abdul Rehman Kanjoo and senator Jamal Laghari.
Strict security arrangements were made by district police to avert any untoward incident as police placed barricades on all roads leading to the starting point of rally. Worst traffic jam was witnessed when caravans arrived from other cities and roads were closed. Consequently, citizens much inconvenience. The event culminated peacefully as no unhappy incident took place.

Mujtaba Shuja-ur- Rehman
LAHORE, Provincial Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that development schemes worth Rs 135 billion are being completed in South Punjab and these are in addition to annual development programme and other projects.
He said that medical colleges are being built in DG Khan, Sahiwal and Bahawalpur, and each medical college will cost between Rs 1.75 billion and Rs.2.5 billion. He said that some elements, who could never get more than a few hundred votes, are raising the issue of Seraiki province to gain political mileage. He said that Pervaiz Elahi remained chief minister of Punjab for five years, but he neither took steps for the development of the area nor for making it a separate province. He said that if there is a need to set up more administrative units, the constitution method should be followed, which include approval from assembly by two-thirds majority or referendum. He said that Seraiki is a language spoken in parts of South Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. He said medical colleges are also being set up in Sialkot and Gujranwala. He said that development projects initiated in Khushab and Mianwali will also be completed which will help alleviate poverty.
