ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Siddiqul Farooque has accused President Asif Zardari of planning a division of Punjab province and using Law Minister Babar Awan for the purpose.
Addressing a news conference here on Sunday, Mr Farooque alleged that the president was biased against the PML-N and its leadership.
He also alleged that President Zardari was unhappy with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif because of the latter’s persistent demand that ‘black money’ in Swiss banks should be brought back to the country.
“All his steps appear to be directed to wreck our party and damage its leadership and to undermine the hard-earned freedom of the judiciary, create dissention between Punjab and Sindh and weaken the federation.” he said.
Mr Farooque said it appeared that the president wanted to punish the people of the largest province, although they had thrice brought the Pakistan People’s Party to power and he also owed his presidency to Punjab’s votes.
